MARK CASWELL –
BIOGRAPHY
Managing director of MCC
Promotions is Mark Caswell and he has been a director
of the company for over 25
years.
Mark has been involved
in sport all his working life starting his football career at
Fulham as a schoolboy then
going on to play for
Town & Herston,
Cricket has also played
a big part in his sporting life, with strong
Wimbledon, Spencer,
Sutton and Catford, and as a club
professional in
Mark has promoted over
100 sporting and music events, mainly football, athletics, cricket,
tennis and golf, and worked as
a consultant on professional boxing shows.
A 'battle of the
bands' format worked well for the company for many years.
HISTORY OF
A South London Five A
Side League was formed in May 1981 with games being played at the Ferndale
Sports Centre in Brixton. In 1988 the league moved its headquarters to the Wandle Recreation Centre in Wandsworth.
The league has eight divisions with games
currently being played every Monday night throughout the year with the
exception of bank holidays. Over the years a few players have gone on to play
in the Football League:
Andy Gray (Crystal Palace), Alan Pardew (Crystal Palace), Clinton Morrison (Crystal Palace
& Republic of Ireland), Hamid Barr (QPR), Darren Annon (Brentford), Stuart Booth (Millwall), Tony Finnegan (Crystal Palace) Moses Ashikodi (Millwall), Jaimie Mordee (Millwall) and Alex Tudor has gone on to be a Surey CCC and England cricketer.
The Darkness Rock Band played in the music
league July 2001.
Singer Craig David played for Kensal Town
Recording Studios in 2007.
The national 5-a-side cup winners
(Radian B Millenium cup winners) was won by
The league cater for
all playing standards and all of the games are played in a friendly spirit.
The year is split into two with the winter
league (September - February) and a summer league (March - August) and at any
one time there can be between 56 - 64 teams registered in the league, with some
400 players taking part.
A one day tournament is played annually on the
first week of June, the event being staged at Battersea Park Sports Ground.
